Basic Function 

The Worldwide Tax group at LyondellBasell is a collection of over 70 dynamic individuals located in multiple countries that work diligently to comply with our Company’s regulatory requirements and enhance shareholder value. We consist of U.S. federal and state tax compliance, host country tax compliance in several jurisdictions, U.S. and non-U.S. tax accounting for U.S. GAAP and IFRS tax reporting processes as well as US and non-U.S tax planning teams. We are also heavily focused on enhancements and process improvements through our tax excellence team. Our group operates on a hybrid work schedule with the ability to work remotely 3 days per week.  We have a Core Collaboration day across Finance on Wednesdays with other office days at each team member’s discretion. An intern is expected to perform all duties on site in our offices.  


LyondellBasell is seeking a Tax Intern to join the Tax Excellence team for a part-time, paid internship during the winter/spring. In this role you will gain hands on experience with numerous processes in tax, accounting, and learn valuable business skills while working on various projects during the winter/spring. The intern should be prepared to apply their classroom knowledge and perform accounting & analytical services for the tax department.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Assist in preparing various workpapers and returns for the consolidated tax return including partnerships, corporations, international, and state returns
•    Assist in preparing various book/tax differences for the tax return and quarterly tax accounting calculations such as fixed assets depreciation, accruals, etc.
•    Assist in preparing global quarterly reconciliations and tie-outs
•    Assist in various special tax projects
•    Assist in research to develop and deliver practical approaches to data needs of the tax team that optimize work products
•    Gather and analyze data from multiple sources to assist in providing deliverables for tax filings,  financial statements and other tax documentation 
•    Leverage technology tools to add efficiencies to data extraction and transformation 
•    Contribute to documenting the tax team’s processes and data needs 

Min. Qualifications

•    Must be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or an equivalent degree
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment which requires ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task
•    Demonstrate basic knowledge in US GAAP and/or Tax principles
•    Must be highly self-sufficient and able to make self-directed decisions as well as support other accountants in the department
•    Possess excellent communication skills, both written and spoken with the ability to work well with others
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis in Excel
•    Knowledge of/the desire to learn Alteryx, Power BI, Power Automate is a plus 
•    Overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
