Alteryx SparkED is excited to welcome its newest students to the scholarship program, Yunsheng (Kally) Hou, Amethyst (Ame) Lam, and Siamak Afshari! These three accomplished and deserving students are all working towards an Associate of Science degree within Irvine Valley College’s Business Science Computer Information Program (CIM). Pictured below are the three students alongside our SparkED Business Development Manager, Jay Garcia (far left), and SparkED Educator Champion, Carolina Kussoy (far right).
We are honored to partner with IVC to support students along their data analytics journey through SparkED learning resources and scholarship programming. The CIM program is comprised of a wide range of studies, including software applications, computer operating systems, and networking and internetworking technologies. Courses prepare students for careers in information technology, with a focus on business and software applications, including Alteryx Designer. As a feeder school to CSU and UC, Irvine Valley College is an integral step in setting students up for success in a data-driven world.
Carolina Kussoy, CIM Professor at Irvine Valley College, is one of the original Alteryx SparkED Educator Champions, integrating data analytics and Alteryx Designer into her coursework from the very beginning. She is currently teaching two sections of Data Analytics powered by Alteryx and has seen a significant increase in student enrollment due to Alteryx Designer Core certification being in demand by employers. “Before Alteryx, our students learned analytics through separate and independent classes (statistics, management, accounting). Today, Irvine Valley College has defined a three-course pathway that is inter-disciplinary and comprises multiple cohorts of students collaborating across various disciplines and majors toward the goal of Alteryx Certification,” says Carolina.
Professor Kussoy was featured during the keynote speech at the Alteryx Inspire Conference in May 2023 (pictured above), where 3000+ attendees were addressed about the future of data analytics. She further adds, “Students are energized by the exciting internship and job opportunities for data analysts. Certification is a currency for them as they enter the competitive job market or make a forward-looking career change. At the conclusion of this semester, I broadcasted my ‘Summer Send-Off’ lecture from Alteryx Inspire in Las Vegas. How exciting for all our SparkED students!”
Kally, Ame, and Siamak will be joining the third cohort of the Alteryx SparkED Scholarship program. The program provides financial assistance, career experiences, and meaningful engagements to learners who show interest in data analytics and who are from a diverse range of backgrounds, educational environments, and fields of study. IVC hosted a scholarship awards ceremony in May on campus, where the students were recognized for their
accomplishments and selection.
We look forward to welcoming the recipients to the scholarship program and further exposing them to all things Alteryx and data analytics!
